The Fishing:

From all accounts the best fishing is the middle river section between the confluence with the Tieton river upstream to the confluence of the little Naches and the Bumping river. This is selective gear and C&R rules. Fishing regulations | Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife

Check with local fly shops and guides for info. As always, our friends at the Avid Angler are a good source. The Ellensburg area fly shops are too.

Although the river has floatable portions we consider walk and wade the best idea. A suitable trout weight rod with a floating line and/or a Euro rod as a starting point. Recent reports have best fishing in the fast water on attractor dries, and some are swinging sculpin patterns.

Additionally, research online articles and U tube posts. If you saved your old Northwest Fly Fishing mag there is a Sept/Oct 2007 article with info.

River flows Hydromet Pacific Northwest Region - Yakima - Bureau of Reclamation

Look at Naches river near Naches (currently running at 457 cfs.) and Little Naches near town of Nile ( currently at 46.2 cfs). As anglers we can pick our poison as to what flows we are comfortable fishing by driving up or downstream.

Warning: Be advised that many consider this river very SNAKEY !
