Bill Marts and his award winning photographer and film making brother Boyd will present "Wind, Sand and Trout - A Photographic Journey of Early Eastern Washington Lakes". This program will take us on a photographic journey back in time for a look at the fascinating history of the Eastern Washington lakes after the creation of the Columbia River dams. Bill Marts - Much of Bill's adult life has been spent fly fishing and in the fly fishing business. It includes owning two fly shops, managing two others. Guiding fly fishers for carp, steelhead and trout. He was in charge of Sage’s Fly Fishing Schools for three years. And had other fly fishing jobs until 2005, when he went to work for The Fly Shop, in Redding, Cal as a travel specialist mostly for warm saltwater fly fishing. I've been lucky enough to hook and land everything from Bluegill to Sailfish, and to fly fish in the Atlantic, Pacific, Indian Oceans. And a lot in between. He also puts on a Carp Fly Fishing Tourney at Banks Lake in central Washington. But, one of the most fun things I’ve ever been involved with (with a fly rod in my hand) is to work with my brothers on various video and slide show presentations.

Boyd Marts began his fishing life as a kid in Oklahoma, sitting with his brother Bill on the banks of muddy creeks with a cane pole and a bobber. A move to Seattle proved perfect for these nature lovers as they discovered the beauty of Washington’s great outdoors. Their journeys eventually took them throughout the Northwest, Canada, Alaska and Mexico, often with Bill as the angler subject, and Boyd capturing images.  Boyd realized his creative calling in high school quickly expanding his passion into cinematography, videography, producing, writing, directing and editing. His college capstone project evolved into an award-winning short film. Boyd’s career continued into freelance photography, corporate video producing and computer graphics. His belief in the importance of creative community was confirmed when Boyd served as President of The Washington Film and Video Association. With nature taking center stage, Boyd’s work has been shown on HBO and in publications such as Fly Fisherman, Northwest Fly Fishing, American Fly Fishing, The Fly Fisher and several Silver Creek calendars. He is enjoying “retirement,” but always with camera in hand and nature beckoning at the end of a fly rod.
