You won’t want to miss the third fly fishing throw down between our two clubs. This year's event will be hosted by the Olympic Peninsula Fly Fishers. Last year OFF took home the Golden Fish Trophy. Let's do it again!
Lone Lake is on the south end of Whidbey Island near Langley, WA. It is managed as a Trophy Trout lake with selective gear regulations. Two rod fishing is allowed. In early spring the large trout move into the shallow areas to feed making spring fishing exciting.
Details:
Meet at the Lone Lake parking lot at 9:30 am for a meet and greet. We’ll have a brief presentation about the lake by their club expert. We‘ll explain the competition rules and view the coveted Golden Trout Trophy. The event will run from 10 am to 3 pm. At 3 pm our OPPF friends are providing a pulled pork/turkey sausage lunch with sides. Bring a 5$ donation, a chair, and your own beverages.
Gear:
A watercraft is required. Lone Lake has a launch ramp for boats on trailers.Trolling Motors are allowed. Rods: 5, 6 & 7 wt rods with uniform sinking lines, types III to VI. Floating lines with long leaders and strike indicators are also effective.
Flies: any leech pattern, wooly buggers, streamers, damselfly nymphs and chironomid patterns. By April, Lone Lake should be alive with spring conditions and hatches.
