Cady Lake Information

About Cady Lake: Cady Lake is all about big Rainbow and Coastal Cutthroat in a pristine setting. WDFW plants upwards of 300 rainbows averaging 4 pounds each every winter. Other facts: Catch and release only, good water access but launch area is small, maximum depth is 40 ft. Fly fishing only, catch and release, 15 surface acres. Single rod only. Parking for 10 -12 vehicles. No restroom. More Cady Lake info at  WDFW

This is a trip where it’s best to partner with another member, especially if you’re spending the night. The parking situation at the lake is such that carpooling helps make room for more fishers.

Getting There: Cady Lake is located near Dewatto on the Kitsap peninsula in the middle of a never ending forest about 13 miles south of Belfair. It’s about a one hour drive from Kingston. The entrance is a totally non descript opening in the woods off the road with no signage. It’s easy to miss. (see the map) Once there you are rewarded with a stunningly pretty 15 acre lake well protected by trees. The boat launch is small but the parking situation looks like it could handle up to a dozen vehicles if carefully parked.

Use Google Maps to get to Dewatto Bay Rd. Here is a link with directions to Cady Lake from Belfair State Park.  Directions

Follow Dewatto Bay Rd past the Cady Lake Manor sign which will be on your left.  Don't turn there, that's a private residence with no public access. Go another 600 ft. until you see a gravel road into the woods.  Turn there and you've got it. See map below.

Techniques: In the early spring the water is still cold. You’ll find fish more shore line oriented. If you have sun to warm the water they will move into the shallows in the afternoon. Some fish may school over deep water at 10 -14ft. Intermediate or full sink lines. Cast right up next to shore and work back. A fish finder can be helpful for locating suspended fish.

Flies: Pink, black and chartreuse and olive booby flies. Dark Hendrickson and other caddis emerger patterns. Try blood worms and other chironomid patterns in size 14 -16 under indicators set for 8ft. Cast near shore and work back. The lake is small so it’s easy to stay in touch with other fishers and learn what’s working.

Camping and Accommodations

There are cabins, tent and RV sites available at nearby Belfair State Park. The cabins at the state park are really great and sleep two comfortably. They are heated and have access to tables and fire pits right outside. Restrooms are close and are well maintained.

The nearest motel is the Belfair Motel at about 95$/ night. Limited restaurant options in town aside from fast food.
