![🌬️🎣 Casting into the Wind – A March Fly Fishing Challenge! 🎣🌬️
What better way to hone your fly fishing skills than practicing in a true PNW breeze? 💨 On a gusty March afternoon at Lake Ballinger Center last Saturday, mentors and new fishers paired up on the back lawn, mastering the art of casting with the wind—and against it!

![Olympic Fly Fishers of Edmonds in partnership with @snohomishhealthyforestproject & @thatbirdinggirl invite you to a winter planting event at Picnic Point Beach on Saturday, March 1, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Pink salmon return to Puget Sound in numbers this summer, and we want to give them every advantage possible!
This event is open to the public. All ages and levels of ability are welcome. Tools, plants, and all other necessary materials will be provided.

“We all have these special places we come to love – a favorite trail, a beach, a lake, or stream,” said OFF President, Greg Sisson. “But special places need our attention to keep them that way. Without our help, trash builds up and the ivy and blackberries take over. Graffiti starts to appear on structures and even trees. Next thing you know, it’s not a very special place anymore.”
A healthy, wooded beach, rich with native vegetation, will cool stream temperatures, slow erosion and provide habitat for birds and fish.
Volunteers will plant native species along the beach in areas cleared during previous conservation events. Plants that will be provided include:
• Tall Oregon-grape
• Black twinberry
• Mock orange
• Red-flowering currant
• Salal
• Shore pine
• Snowberry
• Sword fern
• Vine maple
Representatives from the Snohomish County Department of Conservation and Natural Resources will be on site, along with Picnic Point Forest Stewards.
